Well Quadra Ball suffered significant shrinkage today on the run. Ran City Creek and got caught in a blizzard at the top. I only half thought the weather would change before I started the run so I ran in shorts - can we say freezing appendages? I think the thawing out process was harder than the run! Overall felt pretty good, maybe because I was numb for the last half of the run.

On a side note, we realized that pop culture is not our forte. Michelle, Neal and I got our clocked cleaned at trivial pursuit - it may have to do with either Neal's outstanding Belgian Triple or Pilsner, but I doubt it. I can tell you this though, Neal makes a mean soup and great beer!!!!!!!  Thanks again WhiteCastle!!!

Probably the slowest run of the year which was nice since I was suffering from Belgian Triple overload.  A late night coupled with outstanding beverages equals a slow run, but I must admit I felt a lot better once I was finished.

Foot was more tender today, not sure why, it did not hurt at all yesterday. It was a great day for a run and I felt much better than yesterday.

Out on the JRT this afternoon.  I was not too sure how I would feel, but actually it turned out to be a good run. The wind was a bit rough at times, but I was moving better than I hoped.  It still takes forever for my body to warm-up and move comfortably, but it eventually gets there!

Had to be the longest day ever at work! Arrived at 5 am and left at 8 pm - looooooooong day! I did manage to squeak in 4 miles on the JRT. I pretty much moved like an injured snail, but I got out!

A great night's sleep and a day off, what a great combination.  Taha talked me into trying a 3 mile tempo this morning, I was opposed but decided maybe a few faster miles would be ok.  I was thinking more along the lines of a tinman tempo pace.  Splits were 6:14, 6:24, 6:22.  None of the miles felt very hard, but I also don't think I could have been going too much faster.  At this rate I might actually be able to break the 75-79 age group record at St. George this year.  Look out John Cahill, I am on the hunt!

It was a big day of running.  You are not mistaken - that is actually a 1 - it should have read 10, but I was not in a good place, the longer run will have to wait until tomorrow.  Right now I feel it is better to run when feeling healthy than to push through it, overall I am feeling better and I do not want to take steps backward.

Almost double digits today, and believe me, I thought about it.  I was good for about the first seven, then the foot was hurting a bit.  I thought I should just wrap it up and not push the the big 10.  Overall I felt good, I climbed better today than I have for a while, that was a nice change, and the weather could not have been more perfect!!!!!

I think I should start running intoxicated, then I would not remember anything but still get the mileage. At least I would not remember the stupid throbbing behind my bursa - don't get me wrong, throbbing can be a good thing, just not there!! What an amazing run.  I saw tons of deer on the hillside, the temperature was perfect and I felt great.  These are the days that keep me running.  There is something so calming and peaceful when you are moving the way you know you can.  I just felt fluid this evening!!  Added another 1000 yards in the pool too.

Another shot at a sort of tempo kind of effort.  After a cramp in my left arch to start - nice timing - I restarted and ended up running 18:20.  It was another naked day, but fortunately there was a clock on someone else's wrist.  The arch is now tender, but I think it should be ok.

Out on the JRT.  A bit windy this morning, but was a nice run.  This is the longest run I have done on JRT this year - almost frightening.  I was moving pretty slow to start, but better toward the end.  I thought the wind was calm until I turned around and it was smack in my face - sure glad I had my shorts on!

Made the first attempt at 10x2 min today - just went through the motions.  I was good for the first 8, then the foot was angry.  Now it really angry!!  I figured it would be a touch tender, I will see how it feels in the morning.  It is always good to run with the Mach, I can get caught up with my swearing!!!!!

The foot was not a happy camper this morning upon rising , but it got better as the day went on.  Originally I thought I would take the day off, but then!!!!!!>>> My vibram five fingers arrived.  Inspired partially by Sasha and the Crocs, I finally bit the bullet and bought a pair.  I have been researching them for a while and was afraid to pull the trigger, but I figured I have nothing to lose at this point.  I have been battling my injury for six years, last year being the first year of actually being able to compete for the entire season.  I attributed much of that to switching to a more minimalist shoe, the Nike Free.  I experimented  with some barefoot running but was afraid of stepping on something, but what little I did I really liked.  

So tonight I ran the first .5 miles in the VFF, .5 in my frees, and the last mile in the VFF.  The pavement was not so comfortable, but the grass, man that was great.  I will try to increase my usage of the VFF, but unlike Sasha it will be a gradual adaptation.  The foot actually felt very good after tonight's run, I will continue to report on my experience with VFF.

I will count the two miles even though they were hiking, but they were hiking in my VFF's!!!  It was really a a lot of fun, but my feet are a little stone bruised.  The injured paw is not doing to well and I am having to rethink my strategy for the year, I feel I am going to have to invest significant time cross training and trying to find a way to fix this problem.  The interval set on Tuesday has set me back significantly as I was afraid that it would.  I need to listen better to what my body is telling me.  Got 1600 in the pool and pushed pretty aggressively, especially on the kick sets.

Ok, foot felt much better today, ran in the grass with VFF's, they feel great on soft surface.  Then went to the track and ran 6x100 meters just to work on form.  I am going to spend some time doing some drills to try and fix some form issues, it should help.

2 miles in the VFF's in the grass, this felt great, then 2 more in free's - not so good.  The foot is tender after the second 2.  Will give another whirl tomorrow - I think this is actually the first time I have used whirl in a sentence!!  I must say the VFF's are really great in the grass, I do not have to worry about stepping on anything!!

First pavement run in the VFF's, it was an interesting experience.  I think the bottoms of my feet are going to be a touch on the sore side, but no muscular or tendon pain.  1500 yards in the pool.

A short warm-up and then a series of hill drills and strides on the track. I am really trying to work on better form and continue to strengthen the foot. The good news, the foot is not nearly as tender after workouts as it has been - progress - I think maybe it may be!

I couple of very slow miles in the grass in the VFF's and then more strides with some actually on the track.  I know the mileage is sucking right now, but I really am focused on retraining the stride and beating this achilles problem for good.  It may take a while, but I am at the point that I have nothing to lose.
